You used to be able to go into options and stop the cursor moving down after
every entry

There's the Tools / Option / Edit / Move selection after Enter. Is
that what you mean?

Using 2007 hit the Office Button, then the Excel Options button
at the bottom of the dialog, then the Advanced button and change the
direction in the "After Pressing Enter, Move Selection" area.
