Default how can I save an excel file with long number columns in cvs form.

I need to convert a 20 digit number column in an excel spread sheet to a csv
format but it keeps converting to scientific number. I have save column as
Text, Number and general but no matter what format the long numbers still
revert to scientific. the phone column which is 10 digits converts just fine.
I am using excel 2003 sp3
thanks,
Jim

Does the data look ok when you open the .CSV file in Notepad (or your favorite
text editor)?

You will see that problem if you reopen the .csv file in excel.

You could rename the file to *.txt and then use file|open and specify that those
fields should be text in that text import wizard.

Or you could use:
Data|Import external data|
(in xl2003 menus)

And you'll see the same wizard.

hi
excel has a 15 digit limit on true numbers. it should retain the 20
characters if you enter the number preceeded with an apostrophe.(text) i just
did it in xp03.

Are you looking at the csv file in Notepad?
