My Excel spreadsheets have to open in Microsoft Works rather than Excel. Is
there some way to fix it so that when I click to open an Excell spreadsheet, it opens with Excel? Thanks. |

Yes, R-click on an Excel Workbook file in Windows Explorer, Select Open
With, Choose, and then Tick the box for Always use... and then click Excel. bwest wrote: My Excel spreadsheets have to open in Microsoft Works rather than Excel. Is there some way to fix it so that when I click to open an Excell spreadsheet, it opens with Excel? Thanks. |

Thank you, Bob, for your quick response. Unfortunately, I've tried that and
it didn't work. I'm really tired of having to click and choose "Open With" Microsoft Works when my spreadsheets won't open with Excel. I'm confused, why wouldn't a spreadsheet open with Excel? Unless they
are "Works" spreadsheets? Then the extension would be incorrect. Workbooks open with Excel, that's the instructions I gave you. (WKS files are Works and should normally be opened in Works if you have it) bwest wrote: Thank you, Bob, for your quick response. Unfortunately, I've tried that and it didn't work. Bob, there are 2 file extensions: XLS and XLSX. XLS won't home unless you
right click and choose Works. XLSX will open in Excel but the spreadsheet will be blank - unless you right click and choose Works. I do appreciate your thoughts here. Thank you. Do this.
Open Excel and then click Office button, Excel Option, Advanced, scroll to "general" and put a tick in "Ignore other applications that............" Close Excel and then double click the file. bwest wrote: Bob, there are 2 file extensions: XLS and XLSX. XLS won't home unless you right click and choose Works. Your description reads a little confusing to me.
"My Excel spreadsheets have to open in MS Works" followed by "fix it so that when I click to open an Excel spreadsheet, it opens with Excel" In which application would you like them to open? What format are these workbooks? Excel format or MS works format? In which application were they created/saved? What is the file extension? I think after further explanation, "dde" is the issue.

Sounds like that should fix file associations.
Or possibly re-register Excel 2007 Gord On Mon, 29 Sep 2008 16:46:35 -0500, Bob I wrote: I think after further explanation, "dde" is the issue. You gentlemen sent me in the right direction. This was the fix:
Click on the Office button Excel options Click on Advanced In the General section uncheck Ignore other applications that use dynamic data exchange(DDE) Thanks very much!
