Default I have columns labeled as numbers instead alpha why?

WHen i open my worksheet ?(new) .. i have row numbers down the side, but
instead of having colunm identified as A, B C etc. it shows as numbers as
well.
how do i change this

go to tools | options | general tab | uncheck R1C1 reference style |

Tools - Options - General tab - uncheck R1C1 reference style
