Default Sum/total

I've asked a few here about getting a sum... took a long time on my part but
found the sum icon and dragged it to my toolbar. When I highlighted the
column cells I wanted to total all I got in the Total box/cell was the = mark
with the parameters of the column's rows I had highlighted - of course
included in the highlight was the total box/cell. I can't find a way to get
TOTAL in that cell/box. Any ideas? Thanks guys. Bill

Can you copy and past into this forum the cells that you are working with?
Do you want the word "TOTAL" in that cell? What exactly do you want as a
result?

up in the "total" cell is the formula, designating "= B4 and b23" (the cells
I want a total in... the actual numbers go from B4 to B22... and can't get it

Default Sum/total

"= B4 and b23" is a text string, not a formula.
If you want to total the values in the range, use =SUM(B4:B22)
