Default Changing Source Data in a Formula

I have two templates for the costs of our business. They both contain a
sheet called Material Costs and these two sheet need to be identical. I
don't want to input the same data twice so I made one of the sheets equal the
contents of the other sheet (they are in different files). The sheet updates
itself perfectly as a template. When I did a "save as" and renamed the files
I tried doing a replace to update the sheet that is the copy with the new
file name and I can't get it to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Edit Links menu and Change the source. That will allow you to point
to the renamed file and Excel should do the rest
