Default Problem opening excel

Hi,

Someone used the office computer to download a picture organiser software
and since then I haven't been able to open excel. When opening excel it says
it is installing frontpage and then calls for the cd. Word and other office
products are unaffected it is only excel.

Does anyone know a simple way of overcoming this problem please?

In the meantime I will run the antivirus software to see if there are any
problems there.

Thanks in advance.

I think you may have a temporary Internet file that was created by the
downloading of software that has not fully installed. It is possible that if
you remove all your temporary Internet files that this problem may go away.

From Internet Explorer
1) tools - Internet Options
2) General - Browsing History - Delete
3) Try Deleting temporary Internet files. You may have to delete other
options as well. I can't hurt to Delete All, it just may be a nucience since
you will loss some of your passwords and other usful items.

Hi Joel,

I deleted all the internet files as you suggested but it hasn't fixed the
problem. Each time I try to run excel the microsoft office xp with frontpage
installer keeps coming up and then because it is looking for the original cd
and because I don't have this it fails.

Thanks for your help so far.

I would try to post the problem at the Office - Setup discussion Group. I'm
not sure where the installer setup files are located. because the problem is
happedning when you open Excel I would assume there is something in the
XLSTART directory under c:\Program files\......\XLSTART. You could search
for the XLSTART directory on your C: drive.

Joel,

Thank you for your suggestion. I eventually got around to looking more
closely at this. The XLSTART folder was missing from the office folder. I
copied it from elsewhere and it seems to be working fine.

Thanks again.
