Default Creating names for individual cells over a range

Hello,

I have a three column balance sheet (actual, budget, prior year). I wanted
to define the names of all of the cells in that balance sheet through the row
and column headings. What I did to attemp to do this was I highlighted the
balance sheet with my row headings in the far left column and my column
headings in the top row. I selected Insert - names - create and when the box
came up I selected create names from the top row and left column. So if I
wanted to use cash from the actual column, I couldn't figure out what cell
reference to use. If I use =cash, the entire cash row is selected, if I use
Actual, the entire actual column is selected. I didn't know how to point to
actual - cash so the individual cell is selected. Am I using the wrong
method, or am I not typing in the right cell reference.

Hi,

You can use the range names as you have created them as follows:

Lets say the 3rd column is named Mar and the 5th row is named Accounting,
then the formula to return the Mar Accounting number is:

=Accounting Mar

This is an intersect formula, it returns the value at the intersection of
the two ranges. The intersect operator is a space.
