Default Autoshapes disappear after saving file

This is happening to more then one person. They create an Excel 2003
spreadsheet and insert autoshapes (arrows). You can view the shapes, print
the file and the shapes print. Once the file is saved and opened again you
can not see the arrows, however they appear when you print the file.

Going to Tools\Options\Objects and clicking on Hide All then switching to
Show All (which was the default) does not display the objects.
I could not find anything in KB or TechNet to help.
