How can I get Excel to stop clearing the clipboard everytime its opened?

Details: If I use another application, like IE, to populate the clipboard
with data I want to put into Excel - it is lost when I launch Excel. For
example, say I find data on a web site that I want to put into a spreadsheet.
I go to the web site, copy the data into the clipboard, but when I launch
Excel to paste the data the data is gone.
