Default Sending 2007 files to 2003 users--conditional formatting

I have created worksheets that have a lot of conditional formatting. When I
send the file to Excel 2003 users, most of the conditional formatting is
gone/not visible (such as the new features--icon sets, shaded bars, etc.).
Is there a workaround besides having the receiver upgrade to 2007?
