Hi everyone.
Using Excel 2007, only over last few days I have been getting the following pop up as soon as I click any cell in any workbook that I have just opened by double-clicking on the file. "XXX.xls is already open. Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. etc" It is annoying and I would appreciate any advice on what might be triggering this event. Thank you kindly. |

I don't understand the "click any cell" part but usually people get this
message if their "Open" file association for XLS is set for DDE _and_ there is a %1 at the end Excel command line. This is viewed via Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types, pick XLS and click Advanced. If you have that you'd want to remove the %1. -- Jim "Drew" wrote in message ... | Hi everyone. | | Using Excel 2007, only over last few days I have been getting the following | pop up as soon as I click any cell in any workbook that I have just opened | by double-clicking on the file. | | "XXX.xls is already open. Jim ... thanks for that.
I took a conservative approach and de-selected the DDE option, leaving the %1 in the command line. Problem solved. Thank you for the assistance. Drew. "Jim Rech" wrote in message ... Glad it worked but I'm not sure it's "conservative". The practical effect
is that with DDE used, when you double-click an Excel file in say Explorer, the file will open in an open instance of Excel if there is one, else it will create a new instance. But with no DDE and using %1 a new instance of Excel will always be created. Your choice but Excel always sets up DDE when it's installed or re-registered. -- Jim "Drew" wrote in message ...
