Default Excel Tab limits

Hello all,

I am working with a user, that keeps having a problem with a particular
excel file. Starting in January, she added 6 more tabs to the file. Since
then, the file will periodiaclly get corrupted. There are approx 40 tabs in
this file. The size of the file is only 507kb. It is a small file. Each month
she will created a new file via a template. Sometimes the resulting file may
or may not get corrupt. This is the only excel file she is having a problem
with. It happens when saving to the network, or onto her hard drive. Is there
a limit as to how many tabs can be in a file? Also today, she sent two of the
tabs as a excel worksheet to her co-worker. That person could not open the
file, and Excel would chash on her also. Any thoughts..

Thanks in advance.

The number of worksheets in a workbook is limited by the amount of memory you
have on your pc (40 doesn't seem like too many to me).

Is there any chance that it's the template file that's corrupted?

And if you do have a corrupted workbook, newer versions of excel may be able to
open it.

You may want to try openoffice. Lots of people have said that it's recovered
workbooks that excel couldn't.

(http://www.openoffice.org, a 60-65 meg download or a CD)

If the file is really important, there are commercial recovery services. I've
never used it, but you might want to check into:

The one really corrupted workbook that I've experienced had a single sheet that
was causing the trouble. I removed that worksheet and added back a fresh
version of it and didn't have any trouble from then.
