can anyone tell me if there is a way in windows xp when looking at file lists
in explorer to see details of all files without having to open each folder |

How exactly is Windows supposed to display file details if you don't
open the folder in details view? If you export the contents of a Drive wide DIR to a text file you can look at the text file and see the file details.
