Select the range to be conditionally formatted. In this example, assume the
range begins in A1. Select Format Conditional Formatting. Instead of 'Cell Value Is', select 'Formula Is' and enter this formula: =AND(A1<"X",LEN(A1)0) Then apply the formatting desired.
