Default How to keep linked cell attached to it's source cell?

In the same workbook, i have a cell that references another worksheet cell
which gets re-sorted on occasion. When the source is re-sorted, the
destination cell does not follow that cell. Changing the wildcards doesn't
seem to have any effect. What am i missing?

Select the relevant range of cells before you sort.

I do that using the data-sort-by column (J) grabbing about 10 rows. The
problem is that the cell addresses are now in a different row than they were
when the original link was established. The data in cell J5, which is
referenced in a different worksheet moves to J8 for instance. This results in
the new data in J5 being entered where i now want the data in J8. Is this
making any sense? Somehow i would like the data in J5 which is referenced in
a different worksheet to remain in the same cell in that different worksheet
regardless of which row it moves to as a result of the sorting function.
