Default Excel 2007 wordart compatibility

I have a spreadsheet created that I need to access in both Excel 2007 and
Excel 2003. Wordart that is added in Excel 2003 comes out scrambled in 2007.
For instance on particular object is long and thing with the text aligned
vertically. When I open it in Excel 2007 it is still a long thin wordart text
box, but the text is aligned horizontally, with each character stretched to
to point of unreadability. To make matters worse Excel 2007 also believes the
text to be underlined and struck through, which it is not.

Is this by design? Is wordart created in earlier versions supposed to be
readable in 2007?

Regards
