Just a way to check what files are open.
Open excel hit alt-f11 to get to the VBE (where macros live) hit ctrl-r to see the project explorer (like windows explorer) You should see all the workbooks that are open. You'll see the project's name first, followed by the workbook's name in ()'s. Maybe... VBAProject (Book1) If you see something like: VBAProject(Personal.xls?) (Your extension could vary) Then you do have a personal.xls* workbook open. AllYourSpam wrote: Thanks. That was slightly helpful, but I still don't show any other workbook other than the one I have open. I even did an entire drive search for personal. and did not come up with an excel file. I took a newly opened book1, made the calculation change to Automatic, and then saved it as my new template. However it still didn't work when I opened Excel from the Start menu. I don't know where that pulls from? But anyway, I pinned my new template to the Start menu and that does work. When I Save, it "asks" where, instead of overwriting my file. That work-around is good enough - not 100%, but I'm no longer frustrated. Thanks for the quick response. AllYourSpam wrote: I have tried this, but can't find where I would unhide the Personal.xls. Working in 2007, one must go to the Office Button (MS Logo) - Excel Options - Formulas - Automatic, click save. But that changes it for that one workbook. How do I change the default so everytime I open a new workbook it is set for Automatic ... and who, except for a minuscule number of people would need to not update the calculation? At the very least, it should not be allowed to be set as a default, or at least NOT easily. Anyone's help is appreciated. Open excel Open the offending workbook Change to A1 reference style Save this offending workbook close excel Reopen excel and that workbook to test. If you're still in R1C1 Reference style, then maybe it's your personal.xls that's causing the problem: Open excel Unhide the Personal.xls window change to A1 reference style Hide that personal.xls window Close excel and answer yes to save personal.xls Reopen excel to test it. carann06 wrote: Thanks Dave......any idea how I can stop it, its only happening since we took on Office 07 but some users are still on Office03. "Dave Peterson" wrote: This is an application setting that excel picks up from the first workbook opened in that session. This can include your hidden personal.xls file, too. carann06 wrote: This works but only for a while then it reverts back to manual.....anyone any ideas? Now, everytime I make a change to the values, I have to go to the formula and hit enter for it to update. Why is this and how do I fix it? -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson -- Dave Peterson |
