Default how do I turn on the tabs?

I have two spreadsheets where the tabs have disappeared. I looked in the
Excel Opions/Advanced/Display options for this workbook and the tabs diplay
is checked...

But they are not there... I'm worried that I accidentally deleted the tabs,
but I do not remember doing that. The summary worksheet still references the
tabed worsheet cells rather than displaying errors, so I'm lead to believe
that they may be hidden somehow... Suggestions?

Are you saying that you can see the sheets but not the tabs, or that you
can't see the sheets?
If the former, you may need to rearrange the windows. If the latter you may
need to unhide the sheets.
You haven't said which version of Excel, but I guess you may be using 2007,
in which case someone else can hopefully tell you the relevant options?

I can't see either the sheets or the tabs. The tabs are necessary to
navigate to the other worksheets.

If the former, you may need to rearrange the windows. If the latter you may
need to unhide the sheets.

The check box for showing the Sheet Tabs has been checked... Is there a
shortcut to hide/unhide them that I might have hit by accident? The software
I was flipping back and forth to paste the worksheet into uses the ctrl key a
lot so I may have hit the ctrl key with and accidental character on the
keyboard...

It is Excel 2007

Maybe you don't have the whole window visible.
Try Window|arrange|tiled
(and resize the way you like)

Or maybe you dragged the horizontal scroll bar too far to the left and covered
the worksheet tabs.

There's a "grab point" to the left of the horizontal scroll bar's arrow that you
can use to resize that scroll bar.
