Default File with VLOOKUPs looking for a phantom file

Hi, I have a workbook with vLookups to 4 other files which work ok. The
problem arises when I want to run formatting macros. It runs but then
produces the "Update File" explorer box and is looking for a file name which
does not exist.

The file it is looking for is only one character different from the
original file.

I have looked at some of the post's and the recommendation to use add-ins
is not available to me as I am working on a networked computer which is
restricted.

Any Ideas greatfully accepted.

It sounds like you have a formula that points at a different file--a file that
can't be found. Or maybe it's the first time you've tried to update the links.

Dave, I thought of that and checked the formulae for the rogue link. All
seem ok. I had deleted a file but I restored it since reading your post but
to no avail.
I also had a problem updating the file when it was opening, it was saying
other sheets have not been calculated when they were saved. The files are
exported from Access.

Problem still persists.

How about:
Edit|Links|check status
(xl2003 menus)
