Default can't open files

I am unable to open a file in EXCEL or Word. When I 'click' on the "Look in"
to scroll to particular file, it locks up and I get a "not responding" error.
I have run Norton Virus and other progams everything appears to be OK. I
can open via Explorer. What is happening??

I've never seen excel completely lock up like this.

But I have seen it slow down. Do you have lots and lots of files in that
folder?

If yes, maybe you should reorganize and put some files into separate folders.

Do you have lots and lots of mapped drives to network shares?

If you do, you may not want to map to that many drives (This ain't much of a
solution.)
