Default Symbols instead of numbers

While using the number keypad in excel2007, I receive symbols (or the cursor
jumps within the screen) instead of the numbers I typed. What could be
causing this abnormality? And how can I fix it?

I would not believe this to be an Excel issue but what sort of "symbols" and to
where does the cursor jump?

Have you checked to make sure your NumLock is enabled?

Thank you but I did check the Num Lock. It is on.

Thank you for your help on this but I shut down and rebooted - the issue
does not exist anymore. Weird. I have been using excel for over ten years
and I never saw this before.

Thanks again.

It would appear that what you experienced was a Windows issue not an Excel
issue. Windows reports to Excel what Windows sees coming from the keyboard.
it would appear that for some reason, Windows lost the fact that Num Lock
was on.
