In checking existing discussions I have learned that dropdown lists (created
through built-in data validation) cannot use autocomplete procedures. What I
am seeking now is whether there is any way to cause a cell's dropdown list to
actually drop down upon entry into the cell, without having to click on the
dropdown arrow?

I am using Excel 2003 but am also interested in whether this can be
accomplished in Excel 2007.

Nope... you have to select the arrow to make the list drop down...

After you select the cell, you can press the Alt key and the Down arrow
key on the keyboard, to open the list.
Then, use the arrow keys to move through the list, or use the other
navigation keys, like Home, and Page Down.

Thank you for the response. The use of the keyboard as opposed to the mouse
will be of great value to the application I am developing. A data entry
person will be 10-12 items of data involving several thousand lines. The
Alt-DownArrow is much easier than manipulating the mouse.
