Default Paste names from a source workbook to a destination

MS help provides detailed directions on how to paste a name across workbooks,
but the end result didn't work for me. I can accomplish a cell-to-cell copy
(of the contents only) by doing a copy (in the source), and a paste special,
paste link (in the destination) which works just fine. Perhaps this isn't
possible or doesn't make sense.
