The thumbnail view of an Excel document is black. What would be the cause of
that? And how do I correct it? If we go through "My Computer" and search
for the file, it is only the Excel documents that are black.

thumbnail view in windows? that only shows something for images.

Is the "Save Preview picture" option set in "File", "Properties"? See if
the image shows in "Excel" "Open" "Preview"

True, but Excel allows you to "Save" an image for that purpose.
