Default Export from Excel to DB2 via ODBC

I have Excel 2000 and use it sometimes to export data to a DB2 (AS/400) db.

I am trying to find out why the default field type for a TEXT cell in Excel
becomes UNICODE in the Data Transfer process, forcing me to change each field
type to CHARACTER to avoid issues later.

Maybe someone can help... thanks
