Default Excel 2007 - Can't delete rows or columns

I JUST installed 2007. I have some spreadsheets from a client. When I try
to delete a column or two I get a message

Excel Cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data
or close other applications.

This makes no sense to me. I have 4G of ram and no other app running.

I get the same message when trying to delete a row.
Now I will say that within other sheets in this workbook I can delete as
needed. I can't figure out what is going on in this sheet. Nothing is
locked or hidden

HELP!!!
