Default A "ghost" defined name

I'm having a problem with what appears to be a phantom or ghost
defined name. At some point in the past I must have created a defined
name for a particular cell - say B44. The value in B44 will either be
1 or 0 - it is used as a switch.

If I highlight cell B44 and then go to Insert| Names |Define I see a
name associated with that cell - for example
"staggered_environmentals". However if I scroll thru the Names list I
cannot see that name anywhere.

The same when using any of the tools that find hidden names(Fast Excel
Name Manager, Pup6 or a delete name macro from Microsoft -
"staggered_environmentals" does not show up as a hidden or any other
type of name.

Can anyone help me understand what is going on here?

Thanks.

When you define names the way you describe, Excel suggests a name for the
cell. Might this be what you are seeing? If you select the cell, do you
see the name in the upper left hand corner of the screen?
