Creates new file when opening in windows explorer
I have a user that has a wierd problem. When she selects an excel file in
Windows Explorer and opens it, it creates a duplicate file with number 1 at the end. For example, if the file is called aplogs.xls, when you open it, the file name is aplogs1. The user is getting macro questions as well as asking if she wants to update. The .xls extension also goes away in the title bar. Any thoughts? |

It's because this particular file is a template file *.xlt and not a *.xls
file. If you save it as xls and open that file from now on it won't happen. I also assume it has some links to other files plus a recorded macro -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom "fund_dan" wrote in message ... I have a user that has a wierd problem. The only issue is that this happens with all .xls files that she tries to
open as well as happening with other profiles. Dan "Peo Sjoblom" wrote: It's because this particular file is a template file *.xlt and not a *.xls file. Tell her to open the files in Excel via fileopen
then try either of these toolsoptionsgeneral and deselect (if checked) "ignore other applications" or 1. Close Microsoft Excel. 2. Click Start, and then click Run. 3. In the Open box, type the following (with the quotation marks): "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /unregserver NOTE: If you have installed Microsoft Office to another location, use your correct path for Excel.exe instead. 4. Click Start, and then click Run. 5. In the Open box, type the following (with the quotation marks): "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver HTH -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom "fund_dan" wrote in message ...
