Default Excel Chart Customization

I am presently working with Excel 2003 with XP Pro. I have created a 3-D
colum chart on a machine not my own. I would like to email it as an
attachment to where my computer can insert it but I am presented with the
message: Place chart as "new sheet" or "as object in" I do not know the
difference. I want the outcome to allow me to insert this file into a word
document to replace the image of another chart. Additionally, I reviewed the
property options and saw no way to change the color of the columns. Much
thanks for any guidance

Default Excel Chart Customization

Maurice -

(1) Place chart as "new sheet" or "as object in" I do not know the
difference. <

The "new sheet" option creates a "full-page" chart on a separate Chart sheet
(not a worksheet). The "as object in" option creates the chart as an
"embedded chart object" the "floats" on a worksheet.

I always use embedded charts, because I think I have much more flexibility
in formatting them.

(2) I want the outcome to allow me to insert this file into a word
document to replace the image of another chart.<

Here's the method I use: I create an embedded chart and do the formatting
and sizing in Excel. I select the chart by clicking just inside its outer
border. I hold down the Shift key, and I choose Edit | Copy Picture
(experimenting with the different options). In Word, I do a simple Edit |
Paste, usually in a new paragraph.

(3) I reviewed the property options and saw no way to change the color of
the columns.<

For the standard "3-D Column" chart type, each row of data is a separate
data series, and it's easy to change the color of all columns of a single
data series. Right-click a column, and choose Format Data Series | Patterns
| Area ... To format a single column, right-click it (which selects the
series), pause, and click it again (which selects an individual point), and
choose Format Data Point | Patterns | Area ...
