Unhide Problem in Vista & Excel 2007
Spreadsheets migrated from Excel 2000 to 2007 have hidden columns, and
I can find no way to unhide them. When the left-right visible columns are selected, the "View" tab in the menu shows "Unhide" as disabled (grayed out). Highlighting the entire sheet (the square in the top- left corner) doesn't enable "Unhide" either. Has anyone heard of this, and is there a solution? Thanks in advance Steve |

Are the sheets protected? Mike Rogers "stevew" wrote: Spreadsheets migrated from Excel 2000 to 2007 have hidden columns, and I can find no way to unhide them. Unhide Problem in Vista & Excel 2007
Mike,
Not protected by me (and there's no one else). Moreover, earlier editions of the same spreadsheet have the same problem. Thanks for replying. Hope you or someone has some further idea what Microsoft has done. Quite a mess. Steve On Dec 22, 6:39 pm, Mike Rogers <Mike060349@NoxSpamxAOLDOTcom wrote: stevew Are the sheets protected? Have you checked to see if it is protected? Not saying it is but stranger things have happened. I would check, of for no other reason to eliminate that as a possible solution. Goto toolsProtection if the option is there to "Unprotect" then it is protected, if the option to "Protect" is there then it is NOT protected. Good luck!!! Unhide Problem in Vista & Excel 2007
Mike,
I resolved it. This being Office 2007, with the new menus, I selected the columns adjacent to those hidden and went to the "Views" tab where one finds "Hide" and the grayed-out "Unhide", which is what led to this quandary. I don't know what purpose they serve: If they're sheetwide, I've got hidden columns, so why is "Unhide" grayed? But yes they are sheetwide, because "Hide" disappears the whole sheet (what's that for; can you show porn in Excel?). So I assumed that there must be a lesser level. I found that in the "Home" tab the old Hide|Unhide is still pretty much there under "Format", but now they are under under "Visibility". I did first look into "Protection", but that's its own tangle. Thanks for stepping up. Got pretty anxious there for awhile. Steve On Dec 22, 8:40 pm, Mike Rogers <Mike060349@NoxSpamxAOLDOTcom wrote: stevew Have you checked to see if it is protected?
