Default Formulas bug or on purpose

Excel 07- When using two spread sheets in a formula. Why is it that if you
are on sheet 2 and want to show the sum of something on sheet 1 you have to
hit €śEnter€ť on sheet 1 as opposed to where it has always been, in the target
cell on sheet 2. If you do it the way it has always been done you get
incorrect information.
