What would happen if you deleted all the custom icon from the standard toolbar?

What causes custom icons in the excel standard toolbar
Nothing would happen except the icons would no longer be there.

Did not read your subject line, only your body question. Custom Icons appearing on the Toolbar are most likely the result of code that creates them. Either an add-in you have loaded or a workbook you are using. If you delete them from the Toolbar and close Excel, do they re-appear next time you open Excel?
