![]() I started receiving the following error when I opened excel directly and also receive this error when I attemp to install updates from microsoft. "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see <Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office \Office11\1033\SETUP.CHM" I am running Windows XP and office 2002. I never installed the software since the computer came with it. Any idea what caused this problem and how to fix it. Thanks! |

Office11 is Office version 2003 so the update cannot find the appropriate files
because you don't have that version. You should not be trying to install updates for an application you don't have. Which microsoft updates are you trying to install? On second point.............. If you bought your computer retail and the seller installed Office but gave you no CD there should be a bunch of *.cab files on your HDD which the proper updates can access. Thanks!- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Hi sorry the error says " Program Files\Microsoft Office \Office10\1033\SETUP.HLP". The original error location was a cut and paste error. I am trying to install Office XP SP3 and I receive this error as well. This computer was bought retail with everything already installed. I do not recall getting a cd. Where would the .cab files be located. Thanks. |

Do a file search for *,cab and see what you come up with?
Sounds like the seller maybe did not provide you with any means of adding updates or fixing the original installation of Office 2002 You may have to go back to seller and see if you can get a CD or ask how you repair or update the current installation.
