Default How do I make a worksheet have unlimited lines

I need to make copy several worksheets and paste into 1 sheet to make 1 very
large worksheet. My problem is when I exported the data from Access I was
not allowed to export any more than 65000 records at 1 time. Now when I copy
1 sheet of 65000 and try to paste into the other worksheet under the current
records the stupid program won't let me because there are not enough rows to
paste into. This never happened in older versions of excel. I don't know
what moron changed the sheet size settings but I would really appreciate help
to make my worksheet have unlimited rows like tho older versions did.

Thumbs up Answer: How do I make a worksheet have unlimited lines

Excel Rows

In newer versions of Excel, the maximum number of rows is 1,048,576. However, if you're using an older version of Excel, the maximum number of rows is 65,536.

To make sure you have enough rows for your data, you can follow these steps:
  1. Open your worksheet in Excel.
  2. Click on the last row number at the bottom of the screen. This should be row 1,048,576.
  3. Right-click on the row number and select "Delete". This will delete all the rows below your data.
  4. Save your worksheet.

Now you should have enough rows for your data. When you copy and paste your data from other worksheets, Excel should automatically add more rows as needed.

If you're still having trouble copying and pasting your data, you can try using the "Paste Special" feature. Here's how:
  1. Copy the data you want to paste into your large worksheet.
  2. Click on the cell where you want to start pasting your data.
  3. Click on the "Paste" dropdown menu in the Home tab.
  4. Select "Paste Special".
  5. In the "Paste Special" dialog box, select "Values" and "Transpose".
  6. Click "OK".

This should transpose your data and paste it into your worksheet without any issues. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Older versions were limited to 65000 rows, 2007 has no limit. Are you saving
as 97-2003 workbook?

There is a limit in Excel 2007, but it is 1,048,576 rows, compared with the
65,536 row limit in Excel 2003. I am therefore equally confused by the
OP's question.

Lucy

No version has unlimited row numbers
Excel 2007 has 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns.

If the OP has XL2007, then if he loads a workbook created in an earlier
version, it will open in compatibility mode and will be limited to 65,536
rows.
Saving the file in the XL2007 format of .xslx as opposed to .xls, then
closing and re-opening, will allow access to all 1,048,576 rows

I just hope he doesn't need to graph/chart any of that data, or he'll be
changing his name to MrLetDownByVist&CrushedByOffice2007

Hi David

Thanks for the info - don't know where I got the unlimited from. I probably
heard 1 million and it translated to unlimited between ears & brain :-)

Default How do I make a worksheet have unlimited lines

It appears the rest of respondents are not quite getting the issue. The
problem is that the clipboard only allows 65000 records at a time to be
copied and when an export is tried from Access, it uses the clipboard so the
copy limitation is also in play. Not sure if this is an Office thing or a
XP/Vista Operating system issue but it seems pretty stupid to expand the
number of records (rows) but not allow full export or copy capabilities. I
work with lots of records and migrated to Office 2007 specifically to escape
the 65K row limitation but now I find that I cannot export more than 65K
records from Access or copy more than that within Excel. Upgrade cash goes
for nothing I guess - until the fix is made and another upgrade is needed.
