Default Chart for showing Density of data in a specific area?

I have a list of data that represents locations in several states. This data
is sorted by state and zipcode.

I would like to represent this information in a chart to visually so we can
show how many locations we have in a specific area of the US.

Does anyone have a suggested chart type that I could use for this and
instruction on how to set it up?

Thanks!

I wonder if a surface chart might do what you want but, if you
can find out how it's done, one of those newspaper contour
charts on a map (of the US) might be useful.
