Default Excel 2007 axis format

In earlier versions of Excel you were able to just type in dates for the
x-range in a xy-graph (i.e. 01/15/07).

In my case I have to use a xy-graph because I am having timeseries with
timevalues. Because of that the line-chart is not sufficient to fulfill my
needs.

Today (in Excel 2007) you have to know the number of days since jan 01 -
1900 (i.e. 39095) !!

Is there a way to do it "the good old way" in Excel 2007 ?
