you can use a conditional format.

Under Format -- Conditional Format

set condition 1 for cell values = 1, then hit the Format button to set the
color of the cell under pattern.

How many numbers?

If not more than 4 you can use conditional formatting.

Otherwise you will need VBA code, an add-in from Bob Phillips or Excel 2007
