Not sure if this is the right area or not...and if it isn't, I do apologize.
I'm looking for a way that I can add a comment to a file in general...not just a cell. Specifically what I'm looking for is the ability to read a comment about a file before I click on it. In other words, I have a list of files saved in a folder on my desktop. As I'm browsing through the folder itself, I would like comments about the files inside the folder to appear as I'm holding my mouse over it. Currently, if I hover my pointer over a file name, I get the author of the file, size of the file, date it was modified, and so on. Is this permanent, or is it customizable? Thanks for all the help! |

Thats a feature of the Operating system and file system. R-click the
file, pick Properties and Summary tab. Edit the Comments and then you will see. miked2 wrote: Not sure if this is the right area or not...and if it isn't, I do apologize. If you right click an excel file and select properties and then select
summary and type in a description there under comments, then click apply and close the properties dialogue box. Don't you see those comments when you hover the mouse over the file if you are in fileopen? I can see the comment when I do that. Btw this is not an Excel question really, it's a Windows question -- Regards, Peo Sjoblom "miked2" wrote in message ... Not sure if this is the right area or not...and if it isn't, I do apologize. With file open go to FilePropertiesSummary.
Enter whatever you want in the "Comment" section. Save and hover to see your comment. I'm running Office 2007, so I opened the file, went to prepare, and then
pulled up properties. I found the comments area, and filled it in. I then saved the document. It still displays the file information, such as file type, author, and so on, even after I've added the comments. Am I missing something? Thanks for all your help! I also attempted this, and didn't see any comments when I hovered.

I'm using Vista, with Office 2007. When I right click the file, I get a
dialog box, but there is no area to enter comments there. I actually have to open the file and go to properties to enter the comment. When I hover over the file, it just gives file type, author, date modified, and file size. "CDS" wrote: I'm using Windows XP.
