Default Resource error when Editing Links

I am running a report on excel 2003. The report currently has approx 9300+
rows with formulas on columns L-R. It links to 2 other spreadsheets to
extract data via VLOOKUP. When I go to edit links for the first spreadsheet
(with data text only and 20k+ rows), I receive an error "Excel cannot
complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other
applications." The second spreadsheet link edits with no problem. This
report is run on a monthly basis and has run properly numerous times, however
the last 4 or 5 months I have not been able to get past this point from my
own computer. I have 2G RAM with over 77% of available space on my computer.
This is also not password protected. I have recreated the linked
spreadsheet many times. I have also cleaned up my hard drive and defraged
the computer, neither of which helped. Can anyone advise on how to correct
this issue? Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you.
