Default Excel cells vanish.

While I am working on the sheet, suddenly the bottom half of the page of
cells, and their contents, disappear. It seems to be triggered sometimes by
the automatic save or manual save. I am on Office 2007 and Vista.
The cells can be made to reappear by dragging the sidebar up and down but I
should like to stop this happening. It never happened before on older
versions
