Default Why Can't I see cells I've highlighted in Excel 2007?

I've just installed Excel 2007 and when I click on multiple cells to select
them I can't see which cells I've selected. In previous versions you could
see highlighted in gray which cells had been selected

When multiple areas are selected in Excel 2007 (I assume that's what you're
doing), the highlighting does seem somewhat fainter to me than in Excel 2003
although it's still visible. I don't know that we have any control over the
shading that's used...
