Curiosity: Excel opens two copies of same file
I have an excel file (example.xls) that when I open it, opens two copies at
the same time, named example.xls:1 & example.xls:2 If I close example.xls:2, it removes the ':1' from the other file name. Any idea how this happened? I've already copied the data to a new file and no longer have this issue, I'm more just curious at this point. Couldn't find any documentation through help or the knowledge base. Thanks, Darren |

You're actually seeing two windows into the same file--not two copies of the
same file. It's a nice feature if you want to see different worksheets (or different areas of the same worksheet) at the same time. You can use: window|new window followed by window|arrange to see multiple windows at the same time. To close any window, you can select the one you want to close and hit ctrl-w. Remember to save the workbook's windows in the state you like--or you may see those :1 and :2 next time you open the workbook.
