Default Saving in Compatibility mode

Hi,
I am using Excel 2007, but sharing files with people using 2003.
When I save files in compatibility mode it takes around 30 minutes (compared
with a few seconds in 2007 format).
I have turned autosave off as this basically locks Excel permanently.
Compatibility checker is unticked.
Multiple processors is set to 4 (quad core processor)

30 mins is unusable. What can I do?
Thanks
Roger

Default Saving in Compatibility mode

I have three different versions of Excel on my work machine. This to
coincide with the versions my user's have. I have run into trouble in the
past coding in a newer version than the user has. I don't do that any more.

I wish I had that luxury, or had had the foresight to buy 2003 instead.
