Default Backward and Forward Compatibility

I have a new laptop with Office 2003 Student Edition. I use Excel and Word
the most. I recently found the word merge portion of our Realtor MLS program
can not work with Word or Excel 2003. I have a prior version Office XP 2002
I can install. Will I be able to use all the Excel 2003 and Word 2003
documents if I uninstall 2003 and install Office XP 2002? I can't afford to
screw up 100's of Excel Spreadsheet work.

Thanks!
Cathy

Yes you can open files created in 2003 with xp/2002, I wander between 2003
and 97
without problems.

Thank you Peo Sjoblom.
I understand that "opening" them is not a problem, but will I be able to
work in Excel 2003 files using Excel 2002, make changes, recalculate, etc?

I didnot mean opening them, I meant that I use all the different versions
from 97 to 2003 without any problems,
there are some differences using VBA and a few when it comes to formulas
like extended usability of the SUBTOTAL function
using formulas but fo the average user there is no problems
