Default pivot table creation in shared worksheet

I am unable to use pivot tables in a spreadsheet that was tagged 'shared'?
Is there a reason or a way to get around this?
thanks.

Don't share the workbook, or create the pivot table in another workbook,
using the data from the shared workbook.
For more information on shared workbooks, look in Excel's Help, under
the topic 'Features that are unavailable in shared workbooks'
