I have three computers each with it's own copy of Excel 2002. My client
saved a general ledger report using the extension .xls. ONe of the computers opens the file appropriately. The resulting spreadsheet has 15,000 lines and 12 columns. The formatting is everyother line is blue. I can manipulate this data just like a spreadsheet that I might have created. The other two computers, also running XP on a multi machine license, give multiple errors in opening the very same file. The resulting file is a "repaired" file, and has no formatting and no text enties. It is all but useless. Once the file is opened and converted by the one machine, all the other machines can use the file, and they show the formatting and text. I have updated my JAVASCRIPT to current, but now I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have a thought on this subject. |

Just a guess...
It sounds to me like the file is on the cusp of corruption. Do I know why several can open it normally and the other two have trouble? Nope. But I think I'd start by rebuilding the workbook. You may want to try OpenOffice.org and try opening, then saving (as a new name). It's been known to save some (not always all) data, formatting, and code. http://www.openoffice.org, a 60-65 meg download or a CD CPA Jim wrote: I have three computers each with it's own copy of Excel 2002.
