*.tmp file creation in Excel
Everytime I open an Excel and work with it, a *.tmp file is created. It will
look like this: Itinerary.xls~RF65c4641. When I close Excel, these *.tmp files don't close and I'm unable to delete them. I know that in Word a backup file can be created while you work and those files close when Word or the file you're working on is closed. I looked for something like this in Excel but couldn't find anything like that. Ideas? |

Saved from a previous post:
Add some controls to a worksheet from the control toolbox toolbar and you'll see some .tmp files in the %temp% folder. But I've never seen excel put them in any other location. If those .tmp files look like: ...\VB*.tmp I searched google again for "\vb" and .tmp and got a few hits. One of them: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/mic...1eecaad1c774cc or http://snipurl.com/1339g One person posted that they saw files that had names like: ~RF26c83af.TMP. It was caused by AVG. You can read her description in this thread: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/mic...cd4eed0638e395 or http://snipurl.com/jyus A while ago, someone posted back that uninstalling something called "Panda ClientShield" fixed a similar problem. Even if you're not running "Panda ClientShield", you could try disabling this program to see if the problem goes away. Currently, the only security programs I have are Norton, CCleaner and
AdAware. I don't have AVG. I have used XoftSpySE and Spyware up until about last year and I have since uninstalled them. I've also used Windows Live OneCare, Trend Micro HouseCall and Panda Online Scan but it's been awhile since I've used them. Could any of these be a problem? I don't know. I don't use any of them except Adaware and I've never had any
trouble with that. Maybe you could temporarily disable the AV programs currently running (one by one) and see if that helps. If the problem goes away after disabling one of them, I'd bet you found the culprit. (But I still don't think that this is an excel problem.)
