Default After Excel 2007 install, cannot save files on network share

Could be coicidence, but after installing Excel 2007 on multiple computers,
the users could no longer save changes to Excel documents on the shared
network drive even though the permissions stayed the same, they receive the
error access is denied. The only way to allow them to save changes is to
grant them modify permissions.

Any ideas?
