Default sum format in formula bar

When using the sum function by entering
=sum(a1:a5),

in one spreadsheet I am seeing it shown in a strange format:
=SUM(R[-5]C:R[-1]C)

Why is it different in this one spreadsheet and how do I get it back? I
copied a portion from another workbook, but the original workbook shows the
sum the original way.

Thanks for the help.

On the menu bar, select Tools Options, click on the General tab, then
uncheck the 'R1C1 Reference Style'.
